Kilifi is not a desert.
We are making Kilifi a cassava county. Shamba Project Kilifi gives smallholder farmers good cuttings, training and farm visits, then buys their cassava and dries it into chips. So far that is 1,825 farmers on more than 3,500 acres in Kilifi and Kwale.

We are looking for partners
Our network now has about 1,825 farmers on more than 3,500 acres in Kilifi and Kwale counties. Weather is harder to predict, soils are tired, and farmers selling alone get a poor price. Cassava handles the dry seasons, and once it is dried and processed it sells for much more.
Selling cassava as flour, starch, chips and feed
Raw roots spoil within days of harvest. Turning them into flour, starch, chips or animal feed means less is lost after harvest and the farmer gets a better price for the same crop.
From 3,000 farmers to 10,000
Accelerate Africa Development (AAD) shared our numbers for 2023 and 2024: 2,200 farmers received cassava cuttings, and more than 3,000 farmers sold cassava into local and regional markets with our help.
Help us reach 10,000 farmers
We are looking for grant funders, impact investors, development agencies, foundations and technical partners who want to back farmers on the Kenyan coast.
- A cassava flour machine, so farmers can sell flour and not only raw roots
- Cuttings, training and farm visits for thousands more farmers
- More drying, so more of every harvest keeps and sells
- A cassava economy owned by the farmers themselves
